LA Travel Diary

Wear We Roam is finally roaming!

Last weekend, I shipped off to Los Angeles for my best friend's birthday and seriously had the best weekend. I've surprisingly never been to California, so this was a really exciting trip for me. I toured as many areas around LA as I could, ate at some amazing restaurants and even had a HUGE celebrity sighting (keep reading to find out who!) After finally catching up on some much needed sleep, I put together this travel diary to discuss what I loved most, what I wouldn't do again and the memories that will last a lifetime. Let's dive right in!

In-N-Out Burger
Since I've never been to the West Coast, this obviously had to be my first stop! I flew into LA Thursday night and my friend picked me up and took me straight to In-N-Out. Being born and raised in the Midwest means I've always been surrounded by Portillo's, Superdawg and, more recently, Shake Shack. Because of this, I would say my standards are pretty high. When I got to In-N-Out, I ordered a cheeseburger with everything on it and animal fries (I had to, right?!) The burger was great and tasted decently fresh and better than normal fast food options. Unfortunately, the animal fries were cold literally the second we opened them – such a disappointment! Even if they were warm, these fries would have nothing on Shake Shack's cheese fries.

My first full day in LA was jam-packed with activities, but one I thought was pretty cool was the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. We've all seen the Instagram pictures of the white street lamps, but the art inside was seriously incredible. There was a ton of different buildings holding different kinds of art. One thing that all my Game of Thrones fans would find interesting is that in the tar pits on site at the museum, the fossils from dire wolves were found! I was so shocked – am I the only one who thought dire wolves were something made up for GoT?!

Sur Restaurant
I'm a HUGE reality TV person, and one of my many guilty pleasures is "Pump Rules." Anyone know what I'm talking about?! If not, this is "Real Housewife of Beverly Hills" Lisa Vanderpump's spin off show about the servers at her restaurant, Sur. After watching this show a few years, I knew if I visited my friend this was a must on my to-do list – I literally made the reservation back in May before I even confirmed my flight! We went there for dinner on Friday night and the restaurant was just as beautiful in person. Unfortunately, none of the cast was working but I was still happy to just go to the restaurant in the first place. We started the meal with the goat cheese balls which were delicious but seriously so small – we each only got one bite! We all ordered a salad and I specifically ordered the lobster salad, which was a special of the day, and it was delicious. Overall though, the restaurant was overpriced and nothing mind blowing, but I'm glad we stopped in.

Runyon Canon Park
After Sur the night before, we had all gone out to bars and got a super late start on the day Saturday. We had initially planned to hike to the Hollywood sign but got such a late start, it was too crowded to even find parking by the time we got there. So, we instead headed over to Runyon to hike and *hoped* to run into Justin Bieber (unfortunately, the Biebs stood us up). While I didn't get to see the Hollywood sign up close, Runyon had an incredible view of the city and, probably most importantly, had an easier hike than what we would have had to do for the Hollywood sign. The camera on my phone definitely didn't do the view justice, but here's one of the pics I snapped.

Malibu Farm
If you've made it this far in my lengthy post, congratulations, you finally hit the highlight of my weekend. On Sunday, we drove to Malibu to eat at Malibu Farms and it was an incredible meal. The restaurant is on a dock overlooking the ocean and had the most incredible view, that alone was worth the drive. I ordered the salmon sandwich which was super fresh and delicious, as well as a watermelon cocktail to celebrate a great weekend.

After we finished eating, we decided to walk down onto the beach, and as we were walking, I literally walked into Gal Gadot. If you don't know who that is 1) you live under a rock and 2) you need to go see Wonder Woman immediately. Gal starred in "Wonder Woman" this summer and wowed everyone, and she was no different in person. It was literally the most casual run in and we made eye contact, but I didn't say anything to her because she was holding her baby and I didn't want to be rude. My friends and I were on a high for the rest of the day – I think I still am!

This is only the start of the travels to come, and I can't wait to recap whatever adventure I go on next. Sound off in the comments if you liked this post or what you would like to see in a future one! I would also love some recommendations of what I should do next time I'm in LA!
