73 Questions With Madeline

Alright guys, this week we are doing something a little different here on Wear We Roam. While I love my weekly fashion posts, I thought I would switch it up this week with something that will help everyone get to know me better! As this bog continues to grow, I hope I can keep giving everyone a little insight into who I am beyond my taste in clothes.

This week we are doing a mock Vogue 73 questions post (is anyone else totally obsessed with these videos?!) If you don't know what I'm referencing, Vogue often makes videos interviewing celebrities or influencers and asks them 73 random questions – basically questions they typically don't get asked but give us a sense of who they are. Although this is clearly not Vogue, a girl can dream! Let's get started!

73 Questions With Madeline
by: Not Vogue

1. What's your favorite season?
Fall even though I seriously am so nostalgic for some reason whenever it rolls around.

2. Last photograph you took?
It's actually a screenshot of my group chat with my roommates from college. Honestly, my last 20 pictures in my camera roll are probably random screenshots.

3. What's one thing you can't live without?
My family and the friends I consider family.

4. What's one thing you truly cherish?
I've had a teddy bear since the day I was born that is so worn and gross but I've had him forever and I'll never get rid of him! Beyond that, I have a whole box of things I've kept from significant moments in my life because I never want to forget the great moments I've had with the people I love. I kind of sound like a hoarder but I swear I'm not!

5. Favorite sound?
The *thun thun* of a new Law & Order episode (no shame).

6. Who's your girl crush?
Ummm, how can I possibly narrow it down?! Hailey Baldwin definitely is my top followed by Bella Hadid (sue me, I'm basic) and Cailin Russo (stalk her on Instagram if you don't know who I'm talking about).

7. What book have you read again and again?
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. I've read it 4 or 5 times and every time I read it I feel like I take something different away.

8. What about the most memorable book?
"Time's Arrow" by Martin Amis. This is the book I always recommend when people ask, it was incredible and told in such a unique way.

9. Three people alive or dead that you would want to have dinner with?
If you've been following me for a while, you probably know I have an obsession with Kurt Cobain, so that's my first pick. I also always say I would want to sit down with Michael Jackson because I have so many questions – the man may have had good music but there were so many scandals surrounding him and I'm nosy. My third choice is Hunter S. Thompson. If you know who he is and remember that I'm a journalist, this needs no explanation. If not, Google him.

10. What's your favorite song of all time?
"Dancing on my own" by Robyn. I've been listening to it for years and it's never gotten old like songs normally do.

11. If you had one superpower, what would it be?
Maybe super memory? Is that a thing? I wish I could keep my memories like little movie clips.

12. What country do you wish to visit?
I've never even left the country so I would be happy to go anywhere, but at the top of my list is Italy.

13. What's your favorite band?
Wilco maybe? Hard to pick one!

14. Who should EVERYONE be following right now?
ME! Just kidding (kind of), but Caroline Daur has been my latest obsession.

15. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Sarcastic, observant (weirdly so) and introverted.

16. What are your biggest pet peeves?
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED! My biggest of all time is loud breathing, followed by loud chewing or when people tap me. Basically, if you're living your life in a close proximity to me. (I swear, I'm actually a nice person).

17. What scares you the most?
Not achieving my career goals. I've always had big, unrealistic dreams, but I'm willing to work hard to at least try to reach them.

18. Who's the most fashionable woman you know personally?
No one in my family is into fashion at all, none of them get my obsession. My grandmother Eleanor was always super put together though and wore lots of beautiful silk shirts so maybe her?

19. What's a fashion trend that will never let you down?
High-waisted denim, you'll never go out of style!

20. Who inspired your style growing up?
Like number 18, there really weren't people that were into fashion in my life when I was growing up. So, if we think beyond people I knew, I was always obsessed with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and I always looked to what they were wearing growing up.

21. What Sex and the City character do you identify with most?
I'm a mix between Charlotte and Miranda, not sure if that's a good thing though.

22. What's your favorite beauty trend?
Thick brows. And even though this wasn't asked, one thing I think people should be careful with is highlighter. I think we are going to look back on the heavy-highlight trend in a few years and be so embarrassed.

23. Who is the last person you texted?
My college roommates are sending some of the crazy videos we took our senior year, we always chat in our group text.

24. What's the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning?
Coffee coffee coffee.

25. Who is your favorite author?
Ahhhhh that's so tough! I love Hemingway, J.K. Rowling (duh) and maybe F. Scott Fitzgerald? Random fact kind of on topic is that I really do not like Jane Austen. I feel like a lot of people pick her but I just don't think her books ever brought me new insight into the world and I really think that's the point of reading. I've read most of her work multiple times, so I definitely gave her a chance! Plz don't hate me.

26. What's your favorite movie?
"The Little Mermaid" (don't judge) and "Dead Poets Society."

27. Who is your celebrity twin?
I feel like everyone is told at one point in their life that they look like some random celebrity and I have never been told I look like anyone! I feel like my features are super random, I don't even look like my parents! I can tell you who I wished like I looked like growing up – Mary-Kate Olsen (I was OBSESSED!) I truly don't know who I actually look like though, but if you think of someone tell me in the comments!

28. Who is your favorite Disney character?
Belle from "Beauty and the Beast," she was ahead of her time.

29. Where did you go to college and what did you major in?
I graduated in May 2017 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (go badge) and majored in journalism and English literature.

30. Favorite memory from college?
My entire senior year was incredible but one of my favorite memories was a Saturday where my roommates decided we were going to stay out all night and weren't allowed to even go into our apartment. We stayed until bar close and then basically ran around town and invited ourselves into people's houses. I'm not going into detail but it was actually a lot of fun.

31. What's your favorite food?
I've been craving sushi and miso soup recently but normally my favorite food is bagels with cream cheese.

32. Least favorite?
Chicken. I don't know why but I just don't like it ever.

33. What's the weirdest food you love?
I've never met someone who shares this same weird obsession but I've always loved wheat germ! Most people don't even know what that is but I actually don't think I could live without it. It's super random, but I love to put a ton of it in with my Honey Nut Cheerios and milk.

34. What color dress did you wear to prom?
Black, huge surprise (not!)

35. What's one trend you regret?
Gauchos! This is why I'm not buying into the culotte trend – they're just glorified gauchos! One of my worst fashion memories is wearing a pair of plaid gauchos (literally exactly what's in style now) to the first day of 6th grade and I swear people made fun of me for YEARS. Truly heinous.

36. If you could live in any historical decade, which would it be and where?
Probably the 1920s simply because the Gatsby-esque parties are right up my alley and almost all of my favorite authors were at their prime then – HML Hemingway ;). Where? Anywhere really, but maybe somewhere abroad like Italy.

37. What was your first pet's name?
The first pet that was actually mine was a cat I adopted when I was like 7 and I named her Ms. Chelsea Tibbs Makoul. It was a mouthful, but she was a fatty and it suited her.

38. What's your favorite board game?
Monopoly! But I'm such a sore loser.

39. What's one of your favorite hobbies?
Reading – duh, English major.

40. What's one thing on your bucket list?
To travel to Italy, Greece and Poland! I guess that's actually 3, but like I said, I've never been anywhere!

41. Favorite drink?
Spanish latte or orange juice with extra pulp.

42. What's your favorite dessert?
I'm not the biggest dessert person, I'm more savory than sweet, but if I had to choose I guess salted caramel ice cream.

43. If you could master one instrument, what would it be?
Piano! That's one thing I always wanted to learn growing up but only could play "Silent Night" when I visited family for Christmas. The only instrument I can play is the recorder and I don't even think that counts!

44. A person you would want to have coffee with?
Matthew Gray Gubler and Jared Leto, I have a huuuuuuuuge crush on both of them.

45. What's your favorite color?
Purple and yellow, but obviously not together!

46. What's one thing you want in your future home?
A library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and one of those sliding ladders. I'm extra.

47. Where's your favorite spot to hang?
Any small coffee shop.

48. What's the best way to decompress?
Netflix, ya'll. I know some people think it's better to disconnect but I always feel better when I can completely stop thinking about my own life and watch other people's stories.

49. If you could offer your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don't put so much pressure on yourself and focus more on the present than the past or the future.

50. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Technically I'm "grown up," but I hope to one day be a successful editor after years of working as a reporter.

51. Who would you want to narrate your life?
Lena Dunham. The way she talks in "Girls" cracks me up.

51. Favorite TV show of all time?
Speaking of Lena Dunham, my favorite show ever is "Girls." I've seen every episode 5 times (this is not an over-exaggeration, if anything I'm underestimating myself). I know Lena has been controversial in the past, but the show talked about such huge topics that are so important for women to discuss in their early 20s. Weirdly, my dad is the one that introduced me to "Girls," he loved it before I even knew what it was!

52. What's your favorite sport?
Gymnastics. I still hate myself for quitting in high school.

53. What's something you always travel with?
A book and face cleansing wipes. Flights are so bad for your skin!!

54. What's your favorite slang word?
Janky, because I am extremely janky.

55. What's the best gift you ever received?
The necklace I got when I graduated from college, I wear it everyday!

56. What's your worst habit?
I have trichotillomania, which is basically the urge to pluck out your hair. I do this to my eyelashes when I'm stressed and it's just yuck. Hate it.

57. What's something you struggle with?
I've had anxiety since the first grade (I know, say whaaaaaaat). I still deal with that on a daily basis, but it explains my bad habit!

58. What's one thing you wish you could change about yourself?
I am a major pessimist and sometimes it stops me from trusting people or taking chances, so if I could fix that I would – trust me, I've tried. I'm wired this way, peeps.

59. What's your favorite genre?
Historical fiction.

60. What's your favorite girl name?
Elle. My sister's name is Ellie, my middle name is Ellie (weird, I know) and both of my grandmothers and my great-grandmother either had Eleanor as their first or middle name, so I hope to carry on the tradition but with a more modern twist.

61. What's one of your fondest memories?
Every summer at my grandparents house in Connecticut. They had a pool and we would spend all day out there swimming until our whole bodies were wrinkly and then my grandmother would watch "The Secret Garden" or "The Jungle Book" with us and make hot fudge sundaes. She was the one of the greatest influences in my life, so really any of my childhood memories with her.

62. Who is the one person you would love to meet?
My great-grandmother Nabiha. People in my family talk about her sometimes and I feel every time they bring her up I hear something I've never heard before that's so interesting, I wish I could have met her!

63. If you could have chosen a different major, what would it be?
History! I actually considered adding it as a triple major but would have had to stay an extra semester. I love learning about world history – it really explains why we are the way we are now and I think we could change a lot if we actually learned from our past mistakes.

64. How would you classify your style?
Edgy with a classic, casual twist.

65. If you could be in any iconic male role, who would you choose?
Jack Sparrow, is that iconic?

66. When's the last time you cried?
Last week when I spoke to my grandpa on the phone. I'm really not a crier but he's sentimental.

67. Were you named after anyone?
No, I didn't even have a name for a week after being born! It's kind of a funny story but my parents came up with the name Madeline and they actually only picked it after a neighbor said he loved it. Super random.

68. Do you like your handwriting?
No, it's chicken scratch! As a reporter, it's actually really embarrassing when people I'm interviewing see it as I write, they're probably wondering how the hell I'm going to read it later!

69. What's the first thing you notice about people?
If they keep eye contact.

70. What film made you cry the most?
"Bridge to Terabithia." Even thinking about it makes me sad, I haven't seen it in maybe 10 years but it left its mark!

71. Concrete jungle or mountain path?
I. Do. Not. Like. Nature. City girl, through and through.

72. Do you have a special talent?
I know the lyrics to literally every single song I've ever heard, even if it was only once. My mom didn't believe me and quizzed me on really random songs and has confirmed this is true!

73. What will you do after you finish answering these questions?
Pour myself another cup of coffee and continue binge-watching Law & Order.

Phew, you made it to the end! I hope you enjoyed this fun little (or very long) post. Let me know what you thought, and if you have any questions comment them below!
